Do People With Thick Hair Lose Or Shed More? I’ll Tell You

The other day, I received an email from someone who said: “Lately, I’ve been noticing a lot of hair shedding on my clothes, on the floor, and on my pillow. But, my head hair is very thick. I’m surprised. If you start with very thick hair, excessive shedding is normal. Is it?” I will answer this question in the next article.

How many hair shades is “normal”?”In general, we are given a general range for how common hair loss is. This may depend on the season, time of the month or any medical conditions that may be considered. Typically, it’s a small percentage of what you start with that’s considered fixed damage. But most of the time, we are told that losing 50-100 hairs per day is nothing to worry about until you realize what is normal for you in the long run.

And, these ranges can vary depending on how much hair you want to work with. For example, natural blondes usually have the most hair to begin with (they tend to have fine hair, but lots of it) so there’s no need to worry if they lose 100 hairs a day for a short period of time. These are not at the high end for extended periods of time. Redheads have the second thickest head of hair (and it’s often higher so they get better coverage), followed by brunettes. There are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part, the finer your hair is, the finer you start because you need more hair to get decent coverage and volume if your strands have good texture.

How much hair loss or shedding is common (even if you have a thick head): We all know people who fall out every day but still have very healthy and thick hair. And, most of us know people who shed very little but whose hair looks so thin. There are many variables to this, but two of the most important are whether you are out of the normal range for a long period of time and the quantity and quality of your growth.

Most of us can tolerate being outside of the normal shade range for a short period of time, and we will recover very quickly when we regrow normal healthy hair. But, if the hair loss or hair loss is so long that it never gets a chance to regrow, then we end up suffering a net loss. And, some people have normal or less thinning, but their growth either doesn’t occur or is smaller and thinner than before, so that the same amount of hair provides half the coverage and becomes noticeable. And disturbing differences.

So, the answer to the question: “how much shedding is too much” is too much if it affects the cosmetic appearance of your hair. Some of us can shed a lot and because we are good producers our hair looks the same in the long run. And some of us don’t have that luxury because the shedding lasts too long or we can’t regrow.
