Learn Ninjutsu – The 3 Key Elements For Mastering the Art of Japan’s Ancient Ninja Shadow Warrior

When you think of the martial art of ninja, what comes to mind? For many, this is the image of the warrior in black himself. For others, it’s swords, throwing stars, and other exotic weapons attributed to the art of the ninja.

But, at the core of the ninja fighting system, the secret to mastery lies in a core set of principles and concepts that are universal and critically important if you want to learn ninjutsu – the art of the ninja!

This article focuses on 3 of these elements that are critical to our understanding of this powerful system of self-defense and personal safety. Without these principles, it is difficult to see the difference between the art of ninjutsu and any other so-called “style” – even for students and teachers involved in the art today!

And if you really want to learn ninjutsu or ninpo, there is a secret to it – as the art is known, in its higher, philosophical and life-mastery aspect. Knowing this secret will allow you to see through the scams and false claims of traditional martial artists posing as genuine teachers of ninjutsu.

But, fakes and posers alone can’t distract you from mastery. Often, our own illusions, delusions, and lack of understanding can do more to hinder our pursuit of mastery.

As long as the student focuses on the kata, examples or ‘combat situations’ that are used to teach the art – rather than the principles and concepts that make up the art of the ninja – a dynamic, adaptive, composite system made up of many different arts or skill sets – the art There can never be true mastery.

No matter how many techniques or skills the student is learning!

There are 3 keys to “seeing beyond” the forms or kata models used to teach the art. Instead of viewing these examples as “sacred things”, each technique you are taught should be viewed as a vehicle for the actual lessons that place the ninja at the top of the martial arts “food chain”. “

There are 3 main elements to mastering the ninja’s combat arts:

  • 1) Nagare Nagara, literally translated as “flow”, refers to the graceful, relaxed movement of your body parts and the movement of the attacker’s own body and moving with it. Instead of proceeding in the start-stop, almost robotic style of many traditional martial arts available today, the ninja’s taijutsu (“body art”) integrates the individual movements of the warrior into one continuous flow.
  • 2) Ritsudo This is the timing or “rhythm” of the fight. There are three aspects or “faces” of how this principle manifests itself in self-defense situations. At the individual level, this is the timing of individual parts of your body as each movement is timed, compared to other parts used to produce the overall movement. It’s both the speed of response you take to match or break your opponent’s timing and the grand spectacle or fight as back-and-forth, attack-and-defend movement until peace is established.
  • 3) Kotsu At the core of any genuinely viable technique or model for responding effectively to a threat, there is a core strategy or “essential form” that makes it what it is. While training, try punches, kicks, joint locks and throws to answer the question: “What is this move doing to him?” Rather than limiting your understanding to a beginner’s mind that only sees a strike as a way to inflict damage or a joint lock as a way to capture a particular joint – the ninja sees how each technique or skill application works to limit his opponent’s options, abilities. To damage, and the desire to continue!

Then, and only then, can you see that physical techniques are models of much more than just physical self-defense. In the mind and eyes of a truly wise warrior, they become lessons in unlocking our potential for greatness and allowing us to succeed in all areas of life!
