Fresh Flowers for Corsages

This is the second article in a series of 100 articles about floral design and running a flower shop. Making bouquets is a great way to build your flower business. Corsages are worn by women on special occasions such as weddings, proms and other formal occasions. They can be designed with fresh flowers or silk plants. Corsages are usually worn over the shoulders or wrists; Even a cassock can be placed on an evening bag or purse.

Corsages can be made with either a single flower, a focal flower, such as a rose, or an enchanted lily. The success of any design lies in using the correct and secure mechanics to hold the corsage together. A single rose corsage can be embellished with green ferns, asparagus ferns, baby’s breath, statis and other filler flowers. Silk ribbon is also added for some reasons. First of all, it adds beauty to the design and secondly, it hides the design mechanics in the corsage and pulls all the elements together to complete the corsage. Be sure and advise consumers of delicate flowers like gardius, as they bruise easily and turn brown when touched. Also, you can consider allergies. Make sure the recipient has no allergies to flowers. If so, the corsage can be made of silk flowers.

Corsages can be made of many small flowers. These are multi-flowered vases. Miniature carnations are an inexpensive example of this. Miniature roses can also be used. A mix of flowers such as small daisies and carnations, with green leaves, baby’s breath and accent flowers such as Monte Cassino (a small solid aster) are good choices. Color is of great concern. Usually, like weddings and proms, either the color theme or the color of the dress must match. Adding many small flowers together is more time consuming. Each flower and filler flower are wired together individually and then joined together as one flower. Special effort must be made to ensure that the corsage is firmly attached so that it does not flop. Like single flower corsages, ribbon is also added to multi-flower corsages to complete the design.

Wrist corsages are made in the same way as single-flower or multi-flower corsages. The difference here is that the “wrist” is securely attached to the wrist corsage. There are many commercial wristbands available. Before packaging any cassage make sure and attach at least 1-2 cassage pins. A corsage pin looks like a very long thick straight pin, usually round, with a pearl top. They are commercially available as florist supplies. Wrist corsages do not require corsage pins. Sending bouquets from your flower shop is a great opportunity to promote your shop. Be sure and have attractive bouquet boxes clearly labeled in your shop so everyone knows where the flowers came from. This is part of “branding your store”; Getting your store name and logo. We all want our flower shop to become a household name.
