Different Types of HVAC Systems for Commercial Buildings

It is no secret that HVAC systems are an essential part of industrial, commercial, institutional or residential buildings. They keep modern spaces warm in the winter and cool in the summer to keep everyone comfortable all year round.

The primary purpose of a commercial HVAC system is to provide thermal comfort to building occupants by managing and adjusting outdoor air conditions and keeping indoor air at a desired temperature.

If you have experience with commercial HVAC systems, you may be familiar with the different types of HVAC systems available on the market today. All combinations ultimately fall into the following three categories:

• Single-split systems

• Multi-split systems

• VRF or VRV system

In this article, we will look in detail at the types of HVAC systems for commercial buildings:

Single-split systems are at the more affordable end of commercial HVAC systems. They are especially ideal for small businesses, cafes, shops and other cozy spaces like this. The great thing is that every indoor unit comes with an outdoor unit, so if you want to expand your business space, you can always add additional cooling capacity to these systems in a 1:1 ratio.

These HVAC systems typically consist of air furnaces that circulate air through air ducts and air conditioners that supply air through refrigerant lines. A disadvantage of a single-split system is that if you want to control the space independently, you have to get an outdoor unit and it takes up a lot of space.

On the other hand, a multi-split system consists of several indoor units that are all connected to one outdoor unit that is much larger in size. These are designed for large spaces such as retail stores, restaurants, doctor’s offices, and commercial spaces, especially those with walls and multiple floors.

These systems are made up of heat pumps that circulate air as it naturally flows, saving you a lot of money. However, the installation cost may be higher as they require more installation time.

A VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) or VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system is essentially a heat pump that involves the use of refrigerant in the cooling and heating lines. This system consists of multiple evaporators connected to a condensing unit.

It is important to note that a heat recovery VRF system is capable of providing both cooling and heating at different locations simultaneously by using warm air from different parts of the building and distributing heat where needed. These systems are especially ideal for buildings with small rooms.

In today’s world where technology is constantly advancing, HVAC systems require special care and attention. They need to be upgraded from time to time to meet the convenience and demands of all the residents. Hiring HVAC services is also important to maintain your system regularly and extend its life.
