Endometriosis and Hydrotherapy
As we’ve mentioned in previous articles, endometriosis that grows elsewhere than the endometrium also reacts to the hormonal signals of the menstrual cycle by producing tissue, breaking it down, and shedding it during the menstrual cycle. As you know, hydrotherapy is a medical technique that helps treat diseases with water. In this article, we will discuss how hydrotherapy helps in the treatment of endometriosis.
Hydrotherapy is defined as a form of medical treatment involving water.
II. Types of hydrotherapy used in the treatment of endometriosis
1) Local packing
Local packing consists of a wet sheet that covers the abdomen, with several dry blankets tightly tied over it. The heat trapped in the abdomen warms the abdomen, and as soon as the sheet dries, it becomes wet again. Local packing is commonly used to release blood stagnation by stimulating blood flow to the abdomen.
2) Sitz bath
A sitz bath is a type of bath in which only the hips and buttocks are soaked in water. It is said to reduce inflammation, infection and menstrual cramps.
a) Hot air bath
A hot air bath is a type of underwater bath in which hot air is sprayed into the water during bathing. It increases blood flow in the body and relieves pain caused by chronic diseases like endometrial cramps.
b) General bath
Common bathing includes showers, sprays, showers, shallows, plunges, douches, and common morning sponge baths with a mixture of cold and hot water. A regular bath is said to help increase blood circulation and reduce muscle tension that causes heavy bleeding and endometriosis cramps.
c) Local baths
Local baths include sitz, dosha, spinal, foot and head baths with hot or cold water. Sitz head and foot baths are used on occasion. Local baths are said to be an effective treatment for reducing inflammation.
There are 2 types of compresses
A) Hot compress
Placing a hot towel on a part of the body increases blood flow to that part of the body. A hot compress is said to help reduce regional pain.
B) Cold compress
Placing a very cold towel on a part of the body reduces inflammation in that part of the body.
4. Massage under water
Usually this is for people who have chronic pain. This technique is said to help relieve pain during and after the massage as the painful tissue is supported underwater.
5. Exercise under water
Exercising underwater helps relax the abdominal muscles, which reduces endometrial cramps.
6. Ice and water
Ice and water are put into a wrapped bag and placed on the pain area to help reduce inflammation.
