Beyond the River: Kabbalah’s Guidance for Our Times

“Any intelligent idiot can make things bigger, more complicated, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage — to go in the opposite direction yourself.”

Albert Einstein

introduction

There is enough violence and insanity going on in our post-election world right now that any shift in consciousness we can muster is urgently needed, but there are no signs of this shift in consciousness in the newspapers or on the political front.

Humanity is in the midst of a global challenge. The speed of time and the increased energy frequency on the planet is causing unsettling change and rapid transformation, for others, it is being experienced almost like a mental meltdown. Change forced into a short period of time is often confusing and chaotic. When energy changes, our perception of reality changes. When our reality changes, our relationships are tested and our circumstances can be shaken. And yet, some of us are still trying to stay awake or at least make everyday life somewhat manageable.

It is during this time that we remember what Kabbalah calls “life beyond the river.”

Life across the river

The classical Kabbalistic text, the Zohar, teaches that in order to create a meaningful world, G-d flows a “river” through reality, “separating” His divine presence from physical existence. This river acts as a veil and is the source of all concealment and confusion. Hence our world is called “Alma d’Piruda,” “the world of despair.” (Zohar 1, 22A).

The “river” or “well of separation” runs through the three realms of existence: Olam, Shanah, and Nefesh, meaning time, space, and consciousness. The river flows through every moment and everything. Every piece of material reality has a spiritual part, but it is separated or obscured by the river.

Despite the separation, one is given the power and vision to stand before this veil of separation and grasp the breathtaking expanse of divine reality across the river, to the source of all life.

How is this done when the veil of separation is still there? Sarmad, a 17th-century Jewish mystic from India, explains, “The light of life, which is the essence of Gd, is dormant in the mineral world, dream-state in the vegetable world, awake in the animal world, and fully alive in man.” It is the “light of life” that we call nitzzotz Hashem, the “divine spark” that exists within every human being. This enables us to make a direct connection to the source, across the river. Once we can make direct contact, we need not fear the turmoil of our times.

The Zohar comments, “Your forefathers were always beyond the river… and I brought your father Abraham across the river…” (Joshua 24:2) meaning “Abraham, the children of Evrim (Hebrew). Those who crossed . They have vivid memories of life across the river.”

Beyond the river, despite our ability to connect directly with source, many of us still turn to this side of the river/ghur and settle into life, creating a pervasive sense of the insignificance of daily existence. . Because it is easy to forget when one is challenged. The “side effect” of being spiritual in a human body is that we have descended into the physical realm of existence with the most distant and dense frequencies in the universe, so it takes a conscious effort on our part to return to ourselves. Our true soul nature.

The quest always begins with our quest-ion

Many of us are just starting out with the questions:

What can we do to help? How can we personally contribute to creating a world built on love, not fear? What is my purpose? why am i here Why are all these things happening to me?

If you don’t know, you may feel an unknown sense of frustration or urgency. “But rest assured”, Reb Nachman of Breslov teaches, “if you are asking these questions, you are already part of the solution”. You are being guided. The nature of your contribution will be communicated to you in divine timing.

The real problem is for those who don’t ask these questions, who have buried themselves in defeat, anger, victimhood, and often the desire for revenge.

For those of us who want to “mind” it is important to distinguish between thoughts and attitudes that create inner peace and those that perpetuate inner conflict. We must be careful to choose behaviors and actions that create life rather than destroy life. Since our inner reality creates our outer reality, our contribution begins and continues in our mind and heart, when we are free from anxiety.

Once this is done, the game and our purpose in it becomes more interesting.

Our purpose

Many today find that their purpose is to serve as pillars to hold the place of peace at this cosmic moment in Earth’s history. If you are one of these columns, don’t underestimate the importance of your assignment. Love can only manifest on the planet through our attentive embodiment of peace and light. May Hashem bless you in your endeavors. Continue to carry out your mission diligently wherever you are posted and congratulate yourself for volunteering for this assignment. You chose to live in this world, at this time in history, for a reason.

Other people are being given more action-oriented assignments. You are being asked to serve humanity by organizing or facilitating specific projects. Many people in our fellowship worked very hard in the recent elections. Your efforts have not gone in vain, despite the opposite effect, appreciated and blessed by the realms above.

The age of Pisces is still taking hold

Remember, it can take time for many to adjust to the Aquarius consciousness. Many people still cling to the energy of the Piscean Age. Pisces, the age we’ve been in (and coming out of) for 2000 years, is the symbol of fish. Fish are animals that swim in schools. When one fish decides to change direction, every fish in the school turns at the same time. It symbolizes conformity or “herd mentality”. Nothing is investigated. Crowd rules.

Aquarius on the other hand symbolizes a person drawing water from a well. Water in Kabbalah represents both Chesed (loving kindness) and Mayim Chayim, “living water”, the Torah term for spirituality.

Always remember, our attitude will help or sabotage our best intentions. So we should not fall into the trap of guilt, but instead focus on taking charge of our own lives and our most influential vibrations at any given moment. If we don’t take responsibility for our own need to grow spiritually, we will personally express our disproportionate fears and anger in dysfunctional relationships and traumatic life experiences. Collectively we will join with others to express our unconscious darkness, enthusiastically contributing to the current storms of social conflict, wars, oppression and exploitation.

Network television learned long ago that you can’t make money with good news. What sells is crisis. The worse the threat of terrorism, plane crashes, financial collapse and crime, the more people will stick to their sets. In reality, only the smallest percentage of people are affected by terrorism, plane crashes, assassinations or highway deaths. Looking at the statistics, life is safer than ever. But you’d never know it from the evening news.

One way, the old Piscean energy is most successful in keeping the old order intact these days is by pumping us with false images that cause us to flee, making us hypervigilant to threats and distracting us from our real opportunities. As we heal and “consume” the bombardment of stress and fear-based, politically motivated media, a new era of planetary tolerance and well-being will emerge.

Important points to remember

Avoiding “creating”.

Doing nothing is still doing something – now our energy is being used to reinforce ourselves and continue in old ways. Many create darkness, negativity and even depression for themselves.

A sure sign that we are living like this is when we find ourselves stuck in “reactivity”. Reactive behavior is also a choice in “creation”. It is still promoting a specific effect, thereby “creating”.

The question to ask ourselves is whether we believe that creating from a position of reactivity is our highest advantage. Reactivity is the state we automatically go into when we’re not doing our job, when we revert to our “default” state. When we lose focus of holiness in our lives and no longer see relevance in our current life predicament.

Our second choice is to focus on God from time to time in our lives, in life beyond the river. Doing so will inspire us once again to participate in the divine plan and purpose.

See the stress of everyday life as a recycling process

Kabbalah teaches that we grow by “recycling,” taking a lower form of energy and transforming it into a higher form…..

Just as any tree, shrub, or blade of grass on Earth takes in a poison like carbon dioxide and converts it into oxygen, we too take in the “poison” of life and are expected to recycle it for a higher, more pure effect. A result.

In life, newly harvested truths often emerge from the garden of emotional lows. It is important to remember here that when we are down there is only one direction and that is back up!

Lurianic Kabbalah sees the process of “backing up” as crucial to the evolution of the human soul. The energy involved in grappling with daily stress is understood as a campaign to liberate the divine sparks trapped in physical existence. The only way to elevate creation is to go into the darkness to free it. This is why spiritually developed people often face the greatest difficulties. They are not being punished, rather they are being chosen.

Celebrate even the smallest victories

It is understood that as a result of the veil/river of separation from the divine reality, there is no way of knowing how much our small victories may affect his spiritual part in the higher realms. When we take charge of our energy in even the “smallest” daily tasks and challenges, we have no idea what changes we are making in our overall soul evolution.

Patience is more than a virtue, it is a necessity

Remember, sometimes reality has to catch up with your intentions. Like it or not, we live in a timeless existence. Relax, and don’t throw away anything you’ve tried that doesn’t seem to be coordinating the way you thought it should. Sobriety is part of a new consciousness for many of us. Much wisdom comes in knowing the “what” as well as the “when.”

Albert Einstein’s Final Thoughts

“Man is part of a whole, which we call “the universe,” a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as separate from the rest–a kind of optical illusion of his. Consciousness. This illusion is for us a is a kind of prison, which confines us to our personal desires and affections for a few persons near to us. Our task is to break free from this prison by widening the circle of our compassion to embrace all living beings. All nature is in its beauty.”

In spiritual communion,
