How Globalization Affects Countries’ Foreign Policy
In this short article I am going to discuss the multifaceted topic of globalization. I will touch on how increased trade, investment in foreign firms, and immigration are all contributing to stronger globalization. This increase in globalization makes political entities less inclined to throw their countries into war. This creates a more stable global economy, where countries depend on each other for their goods and money.
The definition of globalization as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary is; The development of an increasingly integrated world economy has been marked in particular by free trade, the free flow of capital, and the use of cheap foreign labor markets. So basically, the three main factors that contribute to globalization are the free flow of goods, money and labor. This definition does a good job of identifying what globalization is, but not how it affects our global society.
Nowadays our global society has become so accustomed to the benefits of globalization that countries are now dependent on these benefits. Countries depend on their trade with other countries, they depend on the labor they use from other countries, and they depend on their ability to inflow/outflow cash from abroad. Now ask yourself – how can this affect the country’s foreign policy? This interdependence will keep countries away from conflict. why this What would happen to these aforementioned benefits due to interdependent countries declaring war on each other? They will lose the free flow of goods, labor and capital that they have become so accustomed to – which will hurt both countries involved. The only way a modern country can achieve maximum development is through these aspects of globalization.
Another aspect to look at is multinational intergovernmental organizations such as the World Bank, the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization. These institutions provide great benefits to almost every country that covers our planet. It provides a strong economy in terms of stable currency and uninterrupted flow of goods and capital. Countries don’t want to start wars because the conflict will cost these organizations, not just for them, but for all the countries involved—especially if the countries at war are economic powerhouses like the United States and Russia.
This brings me to my next point – when powerhouse countries involve themselves in trade with third world countries that have smaller economies, these powerhouse countries effectively act as a “roof” for their partner country. This umbrella provides protection to trade, immigration and investment in their partner countries. When the US is involved in goods trade with another company, it will do its best to ensure that its partner country’s factories are free from mafias and any other illegal activities that could hinder the production of the goods. America wants to get. The US, operating this roof, also protects its third world partners from aggression, because if a country attacks a US trading partner, it will not only have a negative impact on their economy, but also on the US economy. It also encourages immigration, as the free flow of capital and goods will also bring people. Capital and goods will increase the opportunities available to immigrants and make it easier for them.
Another bonus of increasing globalization is increasing social awareness and worker health. Countries, when they have their hands in other countries because of trade, are pressed for equal levels of work safety and regulations. This happens because fair trade depends on all parties involved having the same level of regulation, safety requirements and environmental safety precautions. This will ensure that no country suffers due to lack of environmental awareness or safety precautions for its workers. An example of this is the trade war that the US has imposed on China because of the lack of acceptable working conditions for its people.
As we can see from the above paragraphs, there are almost unlimited reasons to be in favor of globalization and to promote globalization in countries. Globalization affects the global scale by shifting the mentality of individual countries from a national sphere to a unilaterally interdependent global society. This allows for a weaker focus on individual economies and rights, and a greater awareness of global events and global development.
