But the speed and number of options are a bit overwhelming for me at times. Often, I have to step back and catch my breath! This “fun” place to visit is driving traffic and sales better than any of them!

Ever feel like you’re a dog chasing its tail? When it comes to marketing strategy for your business, when do you think about: There’s this bright, shiny object shining. I see it! Should I chase him? I hear it’s amazing! So there is a tendency to change strategy midstream. If you’ve read these statistics, you’re probably one of those who say no.

Is Pinterest a smart social media strategy for your business? I’d say, “Yes. It sure could be!” I know you probably want to jump into the Pinterest waters. Real business is being run here so don’t laugh! According to recent statistics 88% of people have either purchased an item that was pinned or re-pinned!!! Still want to laugh. Implementing a tag-team of Pinterest Infographics can add value and opportunity to your business. But I wouldn’t advise jumping ship, at all.
Your written market strategy
- Analyze your current plan. Determine what is working. See what statistical results don’t bring. (You should analyze this magazine anyway. Make sure you’re able to track your traffic on social media!) I generally advise people to always develop a written marketing strategy first. It looks a bit like a financial portfolio: diversify a bit. Plan to tap into two marketing platforms, maybe three. Learn the best you can about a platform. Then, add #2. Then, #3. Why not add infographics to those platforms? Why can’t Pinterest be one of them?
- I strongly believe that one of the two should be a blog or your own website. You must have an “online home base”. I have been banned for violating a new rule implemented on a platform. No mercy! I begged and begged. I had over 5000 connections and they disappeared overnight! Don’t bank on someone else’s site. Capture your own leads and build your list.
- You should add another platform to the strategy only when you are comfortable. Otherwise you’ll be a bit schizophrenic. You will bounce back and forth. You will be disappointed because you don’t know everyone well enough. You will be less likely to be consistent. Because of time, you won’t do any of them very well. Ever heard of spread too thin? Learn from my mistakes.
- Use the Pinterest search feature and find out what business boards are in your niche. Learn from others before you jump. Sketch out when you will sneak your education. How are they getting to their pins? What fun things are they doing? How are they incorporating Pinterest infographics into their Pins? Which pins get repinned the most? What characteristics do they have in common? Then, determine whether you’ll leave one of your platforms when you add Pinterest, or adjust the time spent between them.
- Find out which critical elements are characteristic to pin now. What drives traffic, leads and of course interest? This is Google. Many experts in the field can give a free hand through their valuable posted content. Once you have determined the steps, write them down. How often will you post new pins? What will the board look like? Will you post at strategic times of the day or use automation to pin? Plan your board and pin appearance logically or creatively.
- Use SEO to get the biggest bang for your buck. (Never forget about keywords. 90% of all keywords are not income generating. If this is not important to you, ignore it.) I use Market Samurai several times a day. It generates keywords and allows you to see the competition. They offer a free trial if you want to take a test drive. In any type of content, in all mediums, I try to include either strong keywords or long-tail keywords. in each pin. With your “home base” URL, you’ll also build a great backlink when you share it!
This will give you some place to start. Pinterest is so much fun. But keep the business separate. Otherwise, it will be 11pm, you’ll look up and wonder where the 2 hours went!
