Electric Hypersensitivty and New Technologies
My story and electro hypersensitivity
In 1993 at the age of 37 I was diagnosed with a mild heart condition called HCM-Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy… simply put… a thickening of the septum in one of the chambers of my heart which reduced blood flow and capacity.. this condition was successfully treated with beta blockers. Controls that I will carry for the rest of my life.
Along with this condition I developed a condition called AFIB, atrial fibrillation. My heart would actually lose its rhythm and race, slow down, add extra beats and I would always know when this was happening because I would get a feeling in my chest. AFIB can be a serious condition because if the condition persists for long periods of time, blood clots can form and lead to stroke. While living in Toronto until 2003, my condition was closely monitored by an excellent cardiologist at Sunnybrook Medical Center. There were several emergency trips to the hospital, usually around 5:00am when I started having afib attacks…but I was always lucky because my heart always seemed to have the ability to regain sinus rhythm. Medical intervention.
In 2003 we moved to Waterloo Ontario and I thought he was a good cardiologist because he came from the Ottawa Heart Institute. One of the first things he did was put me on an antiarrhythmic drug called Amiodarone. I took this drug for four years and still had occasional afib attacks while they were less frequent.
In late 2006 I decided to take a part-time job in broadcasting as a reporter/news anchor. Around Christmas I began to experience a fullness in my throat, an inability to clear my throat and symptoms that affected my ability to work in broadcasting. One morning while I was shaving I noticed that my throat had something the size of a tennis ball in it. I immediately scheduled an appointment with a cardiologist and he responded that nothing was wrong.
By March of 2007 I had lost over twenty-five pounds, unable to sleep at night because of the pounding sound of my irregular heartbeat in my ears. These attacks scared me because they were going on for hours now. This was something new.
I ended up in the emergency ward of a local hospital. Many of the symptoms I was experiencing were similar to those of a heart attack. But luckily that wasn’t the case with me… I was in a hyperthyroid storm… My thyroid was overloaded with iodine and was actually so swollen that it was almost impossible to get a radiographic image because there was little or no space. Radioactive isotopes absorbed in the thyroid.
My wife told me that literally overnight I went from a basically healthy male adult to looking like a frail old man. The intervention of an endocrinologist saved my life and miraculously regained the weight I had lost after a late fall and almost returned to normal. The miracle of it all is that my thyroid, which I was told was destroyed and I would have to take hormones for the rest of my life, started to function normally again. This entire experience was caused by a rare allergy to the drug Amiodarone.
If my cardiologist had really listened to me when I saw him in January of 2007 and done a proper job of examining me, I would not have had to go through this life-threatening experience. During all of this testing I searched for information on the causes of AFIB. A lot of the information I’ve read says that things like caffeine can cause it. So I removed all the triggers as much as I could. But still Afib remained.
I worked for some of the biggest consumer electronics companies in the 1990s and 2000s and often sat in an office setting under bright fluorescent lighting. I would suffer from low energy, headaches, palpitations, shortness of breath and general malaise. I got rid of the fluorescent lights on my desk at one company and put a small lamp on my desk.
Within a day the headache and lethargy disappeared. I found this very interesting. Another thing I learned was that working on the old tube computer monitors was a headache and eye sore. Upon further investigation I found that these symptoms only occurred when the monitor’s refresh rate was at 60HZ. By simply increasing the refresh rate to 72hz the symptoms disappeared.
Was I doing something wrong here?… If I was… I really don’t understand what I stumbled upon.
In all my time working in the consumer electronics industry, beginning in the early 1990s and continuing until 2009, I never knew I was selling all kinds of technology, such as cordless phones, cell phones, televisions, radios. , all had one thing in common. All of them emitted radiation in one form or another, and I was immersed in this world, not only through work, but by embracing the technology in my home.
May 31, 2011 is a day I will remember for the rest of my life. It was the day the World Health Organization reversed its stance on whether non-ionizing radiation from wireless technology could affect people’s health. Earlier the WHO said there was no impact but on May 31 they did a 180 degree turn and said the following:
Lyon, France, May 31, 2011 WHO/International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified radio frequency electromagnetic fields as carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B) based on the increased risk of glioma, a malignant form of brain cancer. Related to wireless phone use. I immediately started reading and researching and calling people, asking questions, and despite the announcement from the WHO, the level of denial that this electrosmog we’re drowning in everywhere can affect our health was stronger than ever.
It seems that the scientific community, which has no financial interest in this big problem, says that we need to be careful and do more research and follow people for more than ten years because most cases have a long duration of cancer. And the telecom industry, up to this point denying that there was a potential problem, said the studies they paid for were vague, test inconsistencies, and the main problem was that they didn’t follow test subjects for more than ten years.
They don’t want to talk about where the statistics go when people follow up ten years from now because it’s scary. Never in the history of mankind has technology been in the hands of everyone, young and old… technology that has never been tested for long-term safety in its effects on our bioelectric bodies.
We are electricity… there are different frequencies around us… some good… some bad… but as more and more research is collected… we are learning more and more every day.
Which brings me to the last chapter of my adventure… I had the good fortune to meet two incredible women, not in person, but over the telephone. Dr. Deora Davis heads a non-profit organization called the Environmental Health Trust. She is working tirelessly to be aware and try to understand the invisible danger we face every day and its impact on our lives. http://environmentalhealthtrust.org/
And then Dr. Magda is the Havas. Magda Havas is Associate Professor of Environmental and Resource Studies at Trent University where she teaches and conducts research on the biological effects of environmental contaminants. http://www.magdahavas.com/biography/
I only once Dr. Had an opportunity to speak with Hawass but that conversation changed my life. To treat electro-sensitivity in some people when exposed to radio frequencies, Dr. Based on the study conducted by Havas, I decided to conduct an experiment in my own home. I disconnected all my cordless phones, reinstalled land lines and turned off my wifi. Was it an inconvenience… you bet. Before I did this I bought some test equipment because I wanted to see for myself how much radiation was produced in my home, especially when I was in close contact with emitting devices like wireless routers or cordless phones.
When I woke up the next morning after turning off all these devices, I immediately knew something was different. I felt energized and alert, and over the next few days I learned to exist without wifi and without a cordless phone because I wanted to find out if my afib was caused by exposure to these frequencies. You should also know that I work from home so making these changes has had a huge impact on my health.
As 2012 draws to a close I can tell you that I no longer suffer from afib… I can tell you that my family has taken on the challenge and made changes in our home to live a healthier lifestyle. We do not know the long-term effects of all electrosmog exposure. And while many findings are informed by completed and ongoing studies, for example we don’t know unequivocally why autism is on the rise…many studies link women to exposure to this invisible contaminant while pregnant…it has been repeatedly shown that cellular damage May occur at lower levels than the government deems safe.
And yet here in North America, more cell phone towers are built in the middle of residential neighborhoods. Children regularly go to school and spend 6-7 hours in an environment where WiFi exposure levels have been shown to be unsafe… This is why I am so upset that our safety code in Canada has not been updated since 1999. . At the time the code was based on thermal heating… in other words as long as the surrounding tissue didn’t get hotter than one degree Celsius… then it was safe.
The fact that it has been proven time and time again that thermal heating is not necessary to break cell DNA may have triggered a re-evaluation of safety code 6 in Canada. It didn’t happen. Dr. Havas says that conservatively about 3% of the population has a severe reaction to exposure to all this invisible junk. She estimates that 30% of the population has moderate sensitivity but because the sensitivity is nominal, most people don’t consider the activities they do to be the cause of some of the symptoms they regularly experience.
Dr. Hawass says that by 2017, about 50% of the population will be moderately sensitive. The effect of exposure is cumulative. In my home I have created an oasis in which I remove close contact with stimuli that cause me distress. I also feel good about creating a healthy environment for my wife and young daughter to live in. I’m not as fanatical about all of this as some people but I do know that we can make subtle changes that can affect where we put things like clock radios, which incidentally give off a lot of electromagnetic radiation, how we route electrical wires around the rooms we spend time in. Be aware of what your body uses as an essential ingredient for sleep, especially in places like the bedroom. Replenish your vitality. It’s not a good idea to wrap power cords behind the bed where you rest your head at night because you’re in an electrical field.
Any plug on any appliance that does not have three prongs is not properly grounded and emits dirty electricity.
I wrote this article for a few reasons.
The first is to create public awareness.
Secondly, many people like me are suffering from this electrosmog infection.
We can’t wait for the government and the industry to do anything because right now they are still saying everything is fine, but that is completely false.
If we wait until we have 100% confirmation, it will be too late.
This is a big part of the picture you Becoming more aware of how you use this wonderful technology. Learn to use them safely and not excessively. I am especially concerned about children and teenagers. Many questions remain unanswered.
Many that the industry either refuses to address or walks away from.
Europeans are far ahead of North Americans.
They love it!
