Starting Back at School With Bach Flower Remedies
Do you still remember the mixture of excitement and nerves as you prepared to return to school after the long summer holidays? Someone take you to new shoes and school clothes and maybe a haircut so you’re smart and ready to go. You’ve got a new stable and a new bag and a sense of anticipation. Everyone asked you about school, what class you would be in, who your teachers would be and you started to feel the importance of what was to come.
Back to the first day and breakfast was a bit difficult to eat due to butterflies in your stomach. You arrive at school and the first thing that hits you is the smell – freshly polished floors, freshly mixed powder paint and disinfectant! Just then there was a sound – echoey hall, doors slamming, teacher’s shoes clicking on the wooden floor, excited voices and a teacher shouting from above! You stood in line and went to your new class. Your teacher told you where to sit, you weighed the teacher and the person sitting next to you – like it or not – and then your new school year began!
You either loved it or your stomach sank as you remembered what it was like.
The same goes for your children. In the rush to get everything ready for school, it’s easy to overlook how they’re feeling. Making sure your child is emotionally ready for school is just as important as making sure their shoes fit.
Talking helps, of course, but what can you do if your child is really scared or lacks confidence? You feel helpless and frustrated that they are having a hard time and there is nothing you can do about it. That’s where Bach Flower Remedies come in.
Bach flower remedies are amazing in helping your child deal with emotional ups and downs. They are safe, free of side effects and chemicals, and best of all, they work very quickly! Children enjoy making solutions and often create their own names for them – ‘My Magic Drops’, ‘My Confidence Drops’ or ‘My Simba Drops’ are some examples.
For best results, they should start taking the remedy about a month before school starts so that the remedy can work in due time. Add 2 drops of each flower remedy in juice or water and do this 4 times a day. It is best to give the drops at mealtimes or around regular times to help you remember. E.g. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime. If your child takes drops at school, put them in a drink bottle with their regular juice.
Here are some bach flower remedies that will help your child settle into school and learn better:
Mimulus – for any fears or concerns they may name about the school. Ex: going back to school, changing classes, some teachers, bullying kids, noisy eating in the big hall, not knowing what to do, not knowing where to go, not knowing where the toilet is, talking in class, doing wrong things, laughing, Kids don’t want to be friends with them, get into trouble, etc. If your child can name a fear, they need to take Mimulus. It is also a remedy for shyness, shyness and panic attacks.
Mimulus will help them become fearless. It’s different from being brave – being brave means you have to be brave because you’re still afraid. Mimulus removes fear so you are in a calm neutral state.
Larch – For lack of confidence. If your child has low self-esteem or lacks confidence in their abilities; If they drop things quickly; If they say “I can’t do… math, spelling, Spanish, etc”; If they drop a subject after getting low marks in the test; If they always need you; If they are not doing something for themselves and want you to do it for them e.g. Call a friend; If they don’t try because they think they will fail; If they always compare them with their friends; If they are a second born child and feel less than an elder child; If they struggle in social situations or new experiences.
Larch will give them confidence without worrying about failure and help develop their talent. This will help them gain social skills, make friends and not need you all the time. When they get stuck in school or get ‘stuck’ in certain subjects, they will try again and not give up. Larch opens up the world because “I can’t” is no longer part of their mindset.
Chestnut sprouts – To help them learn from their mistakes. This is a great solution for kids with learning difficulties or blocks with certain subjects. I used to help my son with his spelling and it is a great help for children with dyslexia.
Combine this with the TFT exercise of tapping the PR spot for great results. Have your child tap the karate chop part of one hand with the fingers of the other – like one hand clapping to the side of the other hand. This leaves energy blockages that make learning difficult. A. It helps you visualize the word for spelling; It helps if you can’t remember anything; You ‘worng ordre!’ Typing or writing words in helps!
Chestnut Bud helps if your child is careless or clumsy; If they repeat the same mistakes; If they don’t listen in class; If they learn slowly; If their mind is always two steps ahead; If they have habits, they should be broken.
The solution will help them to be mentally alert, listen carefully, pay attention and enjoy learning.
Chicory – If your child is clingy, possessive or makes emotionally unreasonable demands. Some kids have a hard time breaking up with mom and dad when they start school – and some parents have a hard time letting go! When I was teaching, I saw children being rewarded by the hands of their parents as they both clung to each other with tears. If you feel this way, you and your child need to take this remedy!
If your child needs Chicory, they may be possessive with their friends and may become depressed or hurt if their friends play with someone else. They can be opinionated and argumentative and use a bit of emotional blackmail. “I’ll be friends with you if…” “I’ll love you if…” If chicory is necessary, relationships are very conditional.
Chicory will help your child to love unconditionally and be selfless and independent.
Walnuts – To cope with change. Walnut is there to help with all the changes that come with the new school year. This will help your child adjust to a new class, a new teacher, a new subject, a new school, or a new neighborhood. This will help to break ties with the past e.g. “But I love my old mistress, I want to be with her!” or “I want to go to my old school!” Walnuts help them move forward and adapt to changes.
This remedy is also useful if your child is easily influenced by other people or is ‘under the spell’ of a strong personality. It helps them stay true to themselves and know what is right for them.
White chestnut – For school anxiety that keeps them from sleeping. If your child gets into bed at night and struggles to sleep or wakes up in the night because they are worried about something, white chestnut will give them peace of mind. Pair it with a rescue remedy for a good night’s sleep.
White Chestnut is for those uncontrollable worries that play over your head like a stuck record. The remedy gives you excellent concentration, a calm mind and worries are replaced by positive thinking.
Bach Flower Remedies will give your child the best possible start to their new school year by allaying all their worries and giving them the confidence to move forward!
